The rise in sea levels has resulted in more storm surges and increasingly dangerous hurricanes and typhoons. 50% of all deaths from Atlantic hurricanes between 1963 and 2012 were caused by storm surges.

Flooding
65% of the world's largest cities are located on a coast. These cities are at great risk of flooding. Impacts in urban settings are magnified as necessary infrastructures (roads, bridges, power plants, waste disposal, food supply, etc) will be damaged.
